Teamlqd's Top horror Games of All Time!

It's Halloween; the smell of cheap candy and fear is in the air. Turning off all the lights in the house, I grab a beer out of the fridge and kiss my wife goodnight. As the PC whirs on and my monitor begins to glow, I reach for my headphones and crank the volume. It's time for that honorary gaming pleasure of scaring yourself shitless. 
You see, ever since October 31st, 2005 I've added a new addition to my annual Hallow's Eve tradition of binge watching horror movies and eating just about anything that appears in front of me (bonus points if it's pizza). That, my friends, is staying up all night playing video games. Not just any games, but horror games! 

So, how does one define horror? After all, fear is subjective and different triggers affect different individuals. I for one absolutely hate mannequins, wax figures, animatronics, and just about anything that swims in the uncanny valley.

But not everyone harbors the same fears, making an all encompassing title of "best horror game" trivial at best. This list won't be just about games that strive to scare you but also games that tribute to the horror genre the most. So read on for our top list for spending your long nights gaming in the dark! 
 

Resident Evil

The original Resident Evil is still considered the vessel that brought scary games to mainstream and one of the most influential titles in the horror genre. But, in 2002, the cuddly little Gamecube got a remake that brought new life (and death) to the original, ultimately proving to be the superior game. And apparently Capcom thinks so too considering they are remaking the remake in HD for...some...reason.

So, why did I pick this game over other Resident Evil games? Well, unlike the recent direction the series has taken, this game is genuinely terrifying on your first play through. I will never look at a door knob the same way again.

What makes this game so great is the amount of detail and atmosphere. Going the pre-rendered router with fixed camera angles actually worked in the games favor, creating a tension of not allowing the players total control of their view. Each room of the mansion is masterfully crafted, showcasing
