As some people may know, I'm a huuuuuge fan of the Wolfenstein series. Especially RTCW. This was the 2nd PC fps game I ever played (after Rogue Spear) and it has a special place in my heart as a fun, but stupid, shooter that still hangs on to its roots. Developed by a sister studio of id software, Gray Matter Interactive (well, the SP anyway), RTCW is a fast paced shooter developed using a modified id tech 3. It's a great game if you like fast paced, exploration based shooters, though the story was initially criticized coming off of Valve's Half Life. But that's a discussion for another time, today I'd like to show you some quick tips to get RTCW working in HD on your PC. Let's begin... Simple Mods Developed by Excellent PeopleSo, when it comes to getting RTCW working with Win 7 and Win 8, id tech engines are usually very future friendly. However, they have never really been forward thinking when it comes to widescreen, and with no official support, that leaves the modding community to fend for themselves. Thankfully, whilst researching how to get Quake 2 working in an older article, I also found another download on the same page for RTCW. It fixes a lot of the problems that plague the original (crashing at the end of Tram Ride for example) and allows for native widescreen support. The download link can be found here- http://www.markshan.com/knightmare/ You will install both files into your rtcw folder, whether in steamapps or a native id folder if you have the disc. Once installed, when you launch RTCW you will have a new option to select widescreen resolutions for the first time! In the event the game crashes on startup after a reolution change, you can navigate to your Main folder and delete "wolfconfig.cfg" Once again a very simple article, but it does help when you make a new purchase and need a quick fix! Below, I will be posting a longplay series of RTCW on our youtube channel- you can watch it from start to finish as I upload more.
